Orders for China-made C919 jumbo jets reach 235 units 2/22/2012
The total orders for the China-made C919 jumbo jet reached 235 units after Singapore-based aircraft leasing company BOC Aviation placed a new order for the jets recently.
The BOC Aviation placed an order for 20 C919 aircraft produced by China's state-owned plane maker Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC). This deal makes BOC Aviation the eleventh customer of the C919.
This is the first C919 order COMAC received since its jumbo jet project entered the detailed design phase at the end of last year.....
Boeing says flaw could affect 55 Dreamliners 2/22/2012
About 55 Boeing Co 787 Dreamliner jets may have a recently discovered flaw in the fuselage, the company said on Wednesday, while reiterating that the world's first carbon-plastic passenger plane is safe to fly.
In the latest in a series of glitches in developing the revolutionary jet, Boeing (BA.N) earlier this month reported signs of "delamination" on a support structure in the rear fuselage. Delamination occurs when repeated stress causes laminated composite materials to begin to separate.
The company is examining a backlog of assembled Dreamliners to see whether they show similar signs of stress, which it has blamed on incorrect "shimming" -- a process planemakers use to fill tiny gaps when aircraft are built.
"All the airplanes that were built up to plane 55 have the potential for the shimming issue," James Albaugh, chief executive officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, told reporters during a media roundtable in Singapore.....

Boeing Aircraft Financing Risks Disruption 2/7/2012
Boeing Co. faces a potentially damaging disruption in financing of new aircraft deliveries due to a political fight in Washington over The Export-Import Bank of the United States.

Airbus Order Book Swells By 91 Aircraft In 2/7/2012
Although Airbus is projecting a roughly flat book-to-bill ratio for 2012, it began the year with 91 new orders last month, more than double the number of aircraft booked in the same month a year earlier.
AviancaTaca's deal for 51 narrowbodies (including 33 A320NEOs) dominated the January activity, which also saw deals with BOC Aviation for two A320s, Spirit Airlines for 30 A320, Etihad Airways for two A330-200 freighters, Air Lease Corp. for a single A330-300, and Tibet Airlines for three A319s. The total also includes Air Namibia's deal for two A319s that was announced yesterday.
Last year, when Airbus set an order-intake record, the airframer booked 32 gross orders in January. It also recorded 12 cancellations; none were recorded in January 2012.
Airbus delivered 37 aircraft in January, ahead of last year's 33, reflecting the move by the airframer to boost output across its product range.....
